We stock BFT-compatible keypads, intercom modules, and the wiring harnesses that connect them, and we install repairs across Woodland Hills and the surrounding Valley. Typical installed pricing for a BFT keypad replacement runs $340 to $650, and intercom board replacement lands between $275 and $500 depending on the model and whether we’re reusing existing wiring or pulling new. Most keypad and intercom repairs are completed in one visit. The usual story we hear: a homeowner punches in the code, hears nothing click, and notices the gate doesn’t move even though the main operator still runs on the remote.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
We work on the full BFT range you’re likely to find on a Woodland Hills driveway, including the Deimos, Phobos, Rigel, and Sub series boards that pair with keypads and intercom panels. The giveaway is usually on the face of the unit itself: BFT stamps the model number on the back plate of the keypad and on the corner of the intercom PCB. If the label has faded, which happens fast in full western exposure up against the Santa Monica Mountains heat, we match by measuring the mounting hole spacing and counting the wire leads. Older BFT systems used 5-wire cabling for keypads; newer ones run on 3-wire bus architecture. That’s a compatibility gotcha: a newer BFT keypad will not talk to an older 5-wire board without a converter, and we’ve seen homeowners buy a new keypad online only to find it dead on arrival because of this mismatch.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question for BFT specifically: we install both, but we’re honest about trade-offs. OEM BFT keypads carry the exact weather sealing and button spacing the board expects, which matters on the north side of the Valley where we get genuine freeze nights in January. Quality aftermarket options, like the Hormann-compatible and the generic 12-key flush mounts, save $80 to $150 but sometimes skip the internal desiccant pack that keeps condensation out of the keypad housing. We stock both and will show you the difference before you choose.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Code accepts but gate doesn’t move. The keypad is sending the signal, but the relay on the board isn’t closing. Usually a dead relay or a corroded terminal block at the operator, which we can replace without swapping the whole board.
- Intermittent operation, worse after rain or sprinkler overspray. Woodland Hills irrigation systems love to mist keypads mounted near planter beds. Water creeps past the gasket, shorts the membrane contacts, and the keypad works only when it dries out.
- Buttons that need three or four hard presses. The membrane switch layer inside the keypad has worn through. This is a mechanical failure of the pad itself, not the wiring, and it’s a 30-minute swap on most BFT units.
- Intercom audio cuts out mid-conversation or hums constantly. A failing audio transformer or a ground loop in the original install. We trace the grounding first because a bad ground will kill a brand-new intercom board within six months.
- Buzzer or bell rings constantly without anyone pressing the button. A stuck call button on the pedestal or a short in the riser cable running out to the driveway post. Both are common in Warner Center corridor properties where constant vehicle traffic shakes loose the connections.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Woodland Hills, installed pricing for a BFT keypad runs $340 to $650 total, parts and labor. A BFT intercom board replacement typically falls between $275 and $500, and a full keypad-plus-intercom package on a shared pedestal lands around $550 to $900 depending on whether we re-pull wire or reuse the original home run. The range is driven by how much of the old wiring we can save, whether the keypad is flush-mount or surface-mount, and whether the pedestal itself needs re-anchoring after years of gate vibration. Every quote is written before we start, and the number does not move at the door. The repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing, covering a full year from the date of service. If the repair fails inside that window, we come back at no charge, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
There is a safe middle ground here, and then there’s where owners get hurt. You can safely check the obvious: clean the keypad face with a dry cloth, make sure the breaker for the gate operator didn’t trip, and confirm the operator’s main power light is on. That’s it. Beyond that, this is low-voltage work but it’s married to a high-voltage operator housing, and opening a BFT control box with power still feeding it is a quick way to fry a $400 board or take a 120-volt hit. If you’re not certain the operator is fully de-energized, step away. We carry the right disconnect procedure for every BFT series, and we also carry the diagnostic meters that tell us whether the problem is the pad, the board, or the wire in between. Call (650) 719-7207 and we’ll run the diagnosis the way it should be run, once, with the price agreed before any work starts.
FAQs
Expect 5 to 8 years out of a BFT keypad in our climate. The biggest killers are direct afternoon sun on west-facing driveways and irrigation sprinklers that soak the housing every other morning. Both shorten the membrane switch life. Call (650) 719-7207 for an exact quote on yours, estimates are free.
Sometimes. If the issue is a corroded terminal, cracked gasket, or worn relay, we repair it on the spot. If the membrane layer is worn through or the board traces are compromised, replacement is the honest call. Call (650) 719-7207 and we’ll tell you which one you have, no charge for the look.
Most BFT keypad swaps take 30 to 45 minutes. Intercom board replacements run 60 to 90 minutes, longer if we’re re-pulling wire or re-anchoring the pedestal. Call (650) 719-7207 and we’ll give you a realistic arrival window.
Yes. We run BFT-compatible keypads, intercom boards, gaskets, and wire harnesses across our Woodland Hills service vehicles, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If we don’t have your exact model on board, we source it same week. Call (650) 719-7207 to confirm stock before we roll.
